TravelStash is LIVE!

7 August, 2008 (11:01) | A-Link, TravelStash | By: chris

It’s been a very long time coming but we’re pretty excited to announce that our baby, TravelStash, is now LIVE and available for public use.  This marks the beginning of the real test of TravelStash because until now Annie and I plus a couple of our friends (and my Mum & Dad!) were the only ones that got to see TravelStash from the inside/under the covers/under the hood/insert your favourite metaphor here.

You can join TravelStash now - we’ve made sure to put the word “beta” in the image header at the top of all the pages. We’re very aware that TravelStash is still very much in the beta stages and, while fully usable, probably still has bugs and a few improvements to be done (e.g. we want to tidy up a couple of cosmetic aspects etc).

If you’d like to check out TravelStash though, please, be our guest and join today!

TravelStash member page & photo improvements

27 July, 2008 (00:48) | A-Link, TravelStash | By: chris

Today we released a couple of changes to TravelStash.

With the recent addition of photo captions we realised that photos inserted directly into posts or wishlist items weren’t showing the photo’s caption if it had one. This has now been corrected and all photos, whether they’re in the photostrip or inserted into a post/wishlist item, have captions (if you create them!).

The members’ home pages have now been updated to look like the main index page. For an example please see the member pages belonging to Chris or Annie.

TravelStash user profile options improved

16 July, 2008 (12:29) | A-Link, TravelStash | By: chris

You now have more options for personalising your user profile.  The edit profile link is available from the control panel when you are logged in and now allows you to enter a blurb about yourself as well as edit your D.O.B and home city/country details.

TravelStash wishlist improvements

15 July, 2008 (21:07) | A-Link, TravelStash | By: chris

You can now upload photos and embed them into wishlist items. Wishlist items have their own URI now too - much nicer than horrible browser query string. A simple change but very useful!

TravelStash design overhaul

15 July, 2008 (20:50) | A-Link, TravelStash | By: chris

Last night Annie and I released a couple of fair major visual changes to TravelStash. The front page is completely different now and has the latest blog posts, travel trips and wishlist items.

TravelStash Design Overhaul

The member homepage now has the 5 most recent posts by the selected member, the groups the member belongs to and that member’s recently added travel tips and wishlist items. See Chris’s member page for an example.

TravelStash group management improved

8 July, 2008 (21:06) | A-Link, TravelStash | By: chris

We’ve just added the ability to remove members from your group. It’s a pretty standard feature but wasn’t available until now. You will be prompted for confirmation and complete security checking is done to make sure you can’t delete members from groups you don’t belong to or attempt to delete members from groups they don’t already belong to.

TravelStash - An Introduction

8 July, 2008 (21:04) | A-Link, TravelStash | By: chris

What is TravelStash?

Basically, TravelStash is a blog.   It’s a blog with a map.   It also lets you keep a wishlist of places you want to visit.   For now, here’s a taste of what will be available on TravelStash soon.

Create a group, invite your friends and blog together

Create your own group or join your friends’ group then set up a trip and blog all about it. That’s the whole idea of TravelStash – tell everyone about your holidays. It’s a place where you have your own personal blog that is totally geared towards people like you who like to travel. When you create a group you can choose a unique name that identifies everything you post on TravelStash. Once you’ve created your group you can invite your friends to join your group so they can create trips, add articles to existing trips or just help you manage the group. Who knows, they might’ve seen something you didn’t see on the holiday and want to tell people about it …

  • Each travel blog can be tagged with a city and country – for the map geeks out there you map your articles using map coordinates too.
  • Each blog can have its own collection of photos that you can upload when you create the blog or later.
  • People can comment on your blogs too.   After all, everyone has something to say, right? Don’t worry though, if someone or something posts a comment you don’t like you don’t have to show it. The power is in your hands.
  • And last but most definitely not least you can show people your group, trips or blogs on a map!   Every group, its trips and the blogs will be uniquely mapped – people can even see the routes your trips took.

Create a wishlist of places you want to visit …

Found some interesting places you desperately want to visit and don’t know where to save links to them? Use your TravelStash account to save links and ideas so you can access them from anywhere with an Internet connection.

This is a feature that we reckon you’ll love.   Every member of TravelStash has their own page within the site that contains all your wishlist items.   You can export your wishlist to PDF then print the PDF in a handy ready-to-carry format.   There’s nothing like being without a computer and still knowing the cool places you need to see!   Let’s face it, your laptop ain’t gonna work everywhere!

Browse other people’s trips!

Keep in touch with family and friends by reading their TravelStash stories, looking at their photos and leaving them comments. TravelStash uses easy-to-read website addresses that you are free to give to anyone you want.

Because we’re geeks too, we’ve created an RSS feed for your group too.   RSS feeds are a way of making sure you are always up-to-date on your friends’ groups.

Control is everything

Once you’re an authenticated member of TravelStash (you must confirm your email address once you join) you can login to your control panel.   Your control panel allows you to :

  • Create new groups
  • Edit existing groups
  • Invite members to your groups
  • Create trips
  • Edit trips
  • Delete trips
  • And much more …

So, what next?

New member registrations on TravelStash will be available soon.

In the meantime, why not check out Chris & Annie’s or Sanjay & Rheanna’s group!
